The carlton Hotel, still empty after all these years

Who are the Carlton Alumni?
The illustrious 600 room Carlton Hotel, one of Johannesburg CBD’s best-known landmarks, was closed in 1997 after operating as a successful 5 star hotel for 25 years. During its operation, The Carlton earned its reputation as one of South Africa’s best hotels and the Carlton Centre is still a popular shopping mecca and tourist attraction.
Carltonites, now working in every corner of the globe, have kept in contact over the years and the passion and sense of belonging generated by ex-employees of this great hotel still exists. Following the success of previous regional reunions across South Africa, it is in the spirit of friendship that a steering committee was formed to coordinate the Carlton Alumni International Reunion held in Johannesburg in January 2005. Carltonites based in Australia, Europe, Far East, UK, USA and of course from all over Southern Africa came and had an awesome time.
